Performance photos
photographs of theatrical and venue performance

I came to photography through the world of performance. Studying and working in plays, films, and the tv and commercial fields. I became interested in capturing heightened scenarios that I found in real life. These photo “documents” always for me had a heightened, poetic and theatrical quality. I looked through my lens with that eye. In my photos of theatre and music live performance, I try to capture the essence and conjurings of these beings who, when in their element, can bring us all together in what are both sacred and common spaces, channeling our universal and archetypal humanity through a particular showing of experience. They reflect our crazy, horrifying, idiosyncratic, beautiful and fun world and explore social, political, historical, mythological, fantastical entertaining and escapist themes. Taking us to other worlds, and showing us our own, but connecting with us immediately—a real energy exchange, and beautifully done. I try to capture that magic in these photos.
