Transfoto is an ongoing community based photo/oral history project: Portraits and recorded voices. The goal of this project is to explore the creative spirit that flourishes in spite of adversity, despite the personal struggles and prejudices that individuals in a marginalized and misunderstood group face. Through the art of photography, as well as through oral history methods, the project also aims to foster insight, understanding and communication within the transgender, lesbian and gay communities and the public at large. The aim is to engage those individuals under the umbrella term “transgender” in a combination of oral history/story-gathering and photo-portrait collaboration.
